'Amato': Second Circuit Recognizes Costs of Being Victim

In a recently decided case, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit expanded the ability of courts to use restitution to compensate victims in white-collar criminal cases. As a result of the decision in United States v. Joseph Amato, et un, defendants convicted in the Second Circuit can be ordered to reimburse victims for legal and accounting fees incurred by victims in connection with investigation and prosecution.
