In 2007, for a very charitable-minded client, we created and began to administer a foundation with a two-fold mission: to educate inner-city residents about how to maintain a healthy diet, and to help provide their underserved communities with access to high-quality, nutritious and fresh food. Known as the Fair Food Foundation, its target population is people who live in “food deserts,” areas where good, healthy food is either unavailable, hard to find or, when it can be found, too expensive. To begin the process of working on this problem with inner-city communities, the Fair Food Foundation intends to select a few cities with some of our country’s most vulnerable populations for pilot programs in 2008.
