Group Health Plans: Notice of Creditable Coverage Due to CMS

March 3, 2006

We previously alerted you that the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA) added a new prescription drug program to Medicare, known as Medicare Part D, and that certain group health plans were required to provide a Notice of Creditable (or Non-Creditable) Coverage to Medicare-eligible individuals (See Notices of Creditable Coverage - A New Requirement for Group Health Plans). We now inform you of new rules requiring group health plans to make similar disclosures regarding creditable coverage to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which is the government agency that administers Medicare.
