SEC Issues Statement Concerning Financial Penalties

On January 4, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“Commission”) issued a statement concerning civil monetary penalties in SEC enforcement actions against corporations. The Statement was issued in connection with settlements between the SEC and two public companies and provides a “framework” for understanding the Commission’s penalty determinations in enforcement actions.
