On June 17, 2005, Mastercard International issued a statement that an unauthorized individual had infiltrated the computer network of a third-party payment processor, CardSystems Solutions Inc., and had stolen credit card numbers. Forty million card numbers, to be exact. According to MasterCard, all brands of credit cards were affected.
