Special Health Care Reform Issue - Summer 2010

September 16, 2010

On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, as amended by the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act. In doing so, he instituted sweeping health care reform that affects all employers. Many of the new requirements will have an immediate impact upon group health plans, and plan sponsors should now take steps to coordinate with insurers and administrators regarding the implementation of the required changes and budget for the increased costs. In this special health care reform issue of Employment & Employee Benefits Developments, we:

• Highlight the key changes brought about by health care reform;
• Provide an at-a-glance table of important action items and effective dates;
• Give an update on the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act ("COBRA") subsidies; and
• Provide compliance reminders about HITCECH, Mental Health Parity and CHIPRA.
