The current trend of fast-track business and real estate transactions makes it imperative that an environmental practice not only have a command of all the legal issues, but also be able to come up with solutions to the practical problems that challenge every deal. We are not "armchair lawyers." Our approach is to anticipate the environmental issues that could have an impact upon a deal and its success, and to manage known and potential environmental risks through a combination of contractual rights, risk transfer and sound management. Because we believe that the most effective due diligence requires hands-on involvement, we visit the facility, evaluate the potential for exposure and identify critical risk management issues. As such, our lawyers frequently function not only as legal and business advisors but also as technical advisors in the field, an approach that many of our clients say distinguishes us from other firms.

Our environmental lawyers are regularly involved in significant business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions and sales of business entities or facilities; securities and debt financings; and workouts and restructurings. With issues ranging from lender liability to New Source Review under the Clean Air Act to Brownfield Redevelopment, our environmental practice regularly operates at the cutting-edge of legal issues of critical importance to business and the regulated community.

We regularly counsel clients worldwide on trends and recent or anticipated developments in the law. We assist clients in permitting and regulatory compliance, and have developed and assisted in the implementation of environmental management systems, including self-auditing programs designed to avoid environmental liability, and have achieved environmental risk transfer through the drafting of manuscript insurance programs. We work closely with real estate clients to facilitate the investigation, remediation and development of contaminated sites, including Brownfield sites.
