Sanctuary for Families Honors SRZ with Law Firm Leadership Award

SRZ was honored with Sanctuary for Families’ Law Firm Leadership Award. The largest nonprofit in New York State dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence victims and their children, Sanctuary for Families each year helps thousands of victims and their children build safe lives by offering a range of high quality services to meet their complex needs. The organization bestowed the award upon SRZ in recognition of the pro bono services the firm has provided to it. The award was presented at Sanctuary for Families’ 25th Anniversary Zero Tolerance benefit dinner on June 8 at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers. SRZ real estate partner

For the third consecutive year, Peter J. Halasz, an investment management and business transactions partner in the New York office, has been named one of the Top 10 International Trade & Finance Lawyers in the United States by United States Lawyer Rankings. Peter’s practice focuses on mergers & acquisitions, securities, private equity, international business and investment funds, including the development, placement and management of alternative investment fund products. Schulte Roth & Zabel’s Investment Management Group has been awarded a Mann of the Year award by The Mann Foundation. Stephanie R. Breslow, a partner in the Investment Management Group, will accept the award on the group’s behalf at the ceremony on April 19, 2010. Since 2005, the Mann of the Year awards have acknowledged those who have made a positive impact in their industry, as well as their community. Proceeds from the award ceremony will benefit the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) at Mount Sinai.

SRZ was ranked as the number one most active investor legal counsel in the U.S. PIPEs market during 2009 by PrivateRaise and PlacementTracker, the leading providers of research, data and analytics covering private investments in public equity. The rankings were based on number of transactions. PrivateRaise cited 39 completed deals totaling $722.27 million and PlacementTracker tallied 38 transactions totaling approximately $703.5 million.

SRZ's representation of Clarion Capital Partners LLC and a group of other secured lenders in the bankruptcy auction acquisition of substantially all the assets of dinnerware company Lenox Group Inc., a deal valued at approximately $100 million, including cash and the assumption of certain liabilities, was chosen as one of the Deals of the Year by ACQ. Business Reorganization partner Adam Harris and Business Transactions partner David Rosewater led the transaction, supported by Business Reorganization partner Michael Cook and Finance partner Daniel Oshinsky, as well attorneys in the firm’s tax, environmental, employee benefits and IP areas.

SRZ is prominently ranked at 25 with a total of 83 active bankruptcy cases. Partner Lawrence Gelber is ranked at 24 with a total of 50 active bankruptcy assignments and partner Michael Cook is ranked at 45 with a total of 29 active bankruptcy assignments.

American Lawyer Ranks SRZ No. 1 for Tech Support

The American Lawyer midlevel job satisfaction survey ranked SRZ No. 1 nationally for the quality of tech support, seventh in the country and first in New York City for the quality of technology training, and seventh in the country and first in New York City overall. The firm has received high rankings for their technology support in New York for several years running but it was the first time it received a No. 1 spot nationally.

Pro Bono Survey Results Include SRZ

The results of a pro bono survey undertaken by Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) for the year 2007 included SRZ on its list of “41 law firms exceeding the VOLS Pro Bono Pledge of providing at least an average of 30 hours of qualifying pro bono work per attorney.” William J. Dean, executive director of VOLS, shared the list in a letter to the editor of the New York Law Journal published on May 5, 2008.

SRZ litigation partners Betty Santangelo and Gary Stein were selected as 2008 award winners of The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement for their article, "The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act: Recent Cases and Enforcement Trends," Journal of Investment Compliance, Vol. 8, No. 3 (2007). Each year 30 authors are selected from entries submitted by the nation's 1,000 largest law firms. The authors will be honored at an awards ceremony June 16 at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
SRZ'S Bank Regulatory Group Received IFLR Award

SRZ was awarded the IFLR (International Financial Law Review) Americas Private Equity Deal of the Year Award for its role as banking and payments law regulatory counsel for First Data Corp. in its $29 billion acquisition by private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and co-investors. The awards ceremony was held at the Waldorf Astoria on April 3, 2008.

In its AmLaw Global 100 listing for 2007, which just ranks by gross revenue, SRZ was No. 78.
SRZ's Diversity Scorecard Ranking

The Minority Law Journal’s “Diversity Scorecard” for 2008 ranked SRZ No. 21 out of 211 firms responding to its survey, a significant increase over last year’s ranking. The scorecard compares firms according to overall percentage of minorities within their total number of attorneys.
