How would you describe the culture at Schulte?
One of my favorite things about working here is the people. Virtually without exception, the attorneys, from associates to partners, are remarkably friendly and that creates a great sense of comradery both in terms of work and socializing. We work hard on complex matters but there is always time for a laugh, which makes it a pleasure to come to work every day. Partners are also very approachable and you frequently see associates dropping by a partner’s office to chat about issues in a case. As a result, I consistently look forward to interacting with my colleagues, whether we are working hard to meet a deadline or enjoying each other’s company in a social setting.
What was the path that led you to the legal industry and Schulte?
I have always had an interest in law with a particular emphasis on the financial services industry. Schulte seemed ideal in that regard since the firm does a great deal of interesting and cutting-edge work in that sector. I was also attracted to the wide variety of matters that the firm handles for its clients. I have found that this results in intellectually stimulating work because there is always something new to learn and engage with on a daily basis.
What do you focus on in your practice?
As a general commercial litigator, I work on a wide variety of matters, including complex commercial litigation, government investigations, class actions, and securities litigation. In the past few years I have also begun focusing on matters relating to litigation finance, which is a rapidly growing industry. Being a litigator, there are many fascinating and constantly evolving legal issues in the litigation finance space that I work on with attorneys across practice groups to advise our clients.
In what ways does the firm support your professional development?
Partners here are very invested in your professional development. They go out of their way to provide opportunities to work on new types of matters in order to provide associates with a wide breadth of experience. I have also been able to take on a lot of responsibility early in my career. Matters are typically staffed leanly, which gives associates significant opportunities to grow and develop as lawyers. Schulte also provides numerous formal training opportunities, including trial and deposition workshops for litigators, management and leadership development opportunities, and countless others.
