SRZ’s Ele Klein Named 2022 Dealmaker of the Year by The American Lawyer

Congratulations to Ele Klein, chair of the M&A and Securities Group and co-chair of the global Shareholder Activism Group, on being named a 2022 Dealmaker of the Year for his work on the largest Activist campaign in history, advising Engine No. 1 in connection with the groundbreaking election of three directors to the Exxon Mobil board of directors.
“The Exxon campaign was a watershed moment,” said Klein, on representing Engine No. 1 in the groundbreaking proxy fight. “It was ESG activism, but it was also traditional activist activity. Engine No. 1 engaged with Exxon because it was a company that was underperforming. But it had also a very important overlay of ESG issues.”
David Swift, Engine No. 1’s Chief Operating Officer, noted that “His legal insights and thought leadership were instrumental for us.”
