Schulte Roth & Zabel (SRZ) announces the addition of Edward H. Sadtler as a partner and head of the Intellectual Property, Sourcing & Technology Group, resident in the New York office. Mr. Sadtler comes to SRZ from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a partner in the technology and IP transactions practice.

Mr. Sadtler represents clients in a wide variety of transactions and matters involving intellectual property, technology, privacy and data security. Specifically, he has counseled clients in the areas of licensing, intellectual property transfers, IT services, joint ventures and strategic alliances, consulting, publicity rights, trademark prosecution, and manufacturing, distribution and supply arrangements. Working closely with cross-practice teams, Mr. Sadtler has advised on the intellectual property, technology and data security aspects of mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, carve-outs, financings, securitizations, public offerings and restructurings. His experience covers many industries, including financial services, health care, software, cybersecurity, apparel and accessories, travel, hospitality, media, entertainment, energy, logistics and communications.

“We are very excited to welcome Edward to the firm to lead our IP and technology group. His broad transactional experience and problem-solving approach make Edward a great addition to our deal team,” commented Stuart D. Freedman, co-chair of SRZ’s M&A and Securities Group. “Edward has high-level expertise advising on IP and technology issues, and his sophisticated practice bolsters our transactional capabilities. We are delighted to have Edward join us,” said Richard A. Presutti, co-chair of the M&A and Securities Group.

“Edward is an industry-leading lawyer with significant experience working on high-stakes deals. We are pleased to have him join SRZ,” commented Alan S. Waldenberg, chair of SRZ’s Executive Committee.

SRZ’s M&A transactions have been consistently recognized as “Deals of the Year” by industry publications. Those high-profile SRZ deals include: the $9.2-billion acquisition of Safeway, the nation’s second largest traditional supermarket; the acquisition of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ U.S. public sector business; the acquisition of GE Healthcare’s enterprise financial management, ambulatory care management and workforce management assets for $1.05 billion in cash; and the acquisition of athenahealth Inc., a provider of network-enabled services for hospital and ambulatory customers nationwide, for $5.7 billion cash. SRZ’s IP lawyers combine an in-depth knowledge of the law, expertise in software, hardware, procurement, the internet, cybersecurity, privacy and telecommunications with a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses and the industries in which they operate in order to help them achieve their goals.

“Schulte has a stellar reputation for its world-class client service and unparalleled platform. I am excited to play a key role in further building Schulte’s excellent IP practice, and I look forward to working with the strong cross-practice teams for which the firm is known,” said Mr. Sadtler, who holds a J.D. from University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A., cum laude and with departmental honors, from Columbia University.
