SRZ Hosts Annual Seminar: London Investment Management Hot Topics
11 March 2015
Today SRZ hosts its annual seminar “London Investment Management Hot Topics,” featuring SRZ’s leading lawyers who will share their unrivalled market knowledge on the current issues impacting investment fund managers in Europe and the United States. This year’s panels include Current Issues for Managers; Protecting the Business: Regulatory Risks and Outlook; and Investor Needs and Expectations. The event is by invitation only.
SRZ founding partner Daniel Shapiro will open and close the program, which will also feature partners Brian Daly, Josh Dambacher, Peter Declercq, Nick Fagge, Christopher Hilditch, Anna Maleva-Otto, Jim McNally, David Rosewater, Joseph Smith, Sonya Van de Graaff, Kerrie Walsh and Steven Whittaker, as well as special counsel Cathy Weist.
The speakers represent a broad range of practice areas including investment management, regulatory & compliance, business reorganisation, mergers & acquisitions, private equity and tax. SRZ advises funds and managers located in the United Kingdom, the United States, continental Europe, the Middle East, Southern Africa, Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan) and Australia on UK and US law. The lawyers advise on the establishment and operation of hedge funds, and on the structuring and operation of hedge fund management groups, including LLP agreements, and on seed capital arrangements.
In addition, SRZ is one of only a few firms with a dedicated group of lawyers specifically focusing on regulatory and compliance matters within its hedge fund practice. “For European and US managers, the regulatory risks have become a major focus in the past year, and at today’s seminar we will discuss the latest developments,” said Mr. Hilditch, SRZ investment management partner and head of the London office.
“This year’s election in the UK will likely shift some of the industry’s focus from regulation to tax issues in 2015, and at the seminar we’ll discuss the potential opportunities and risks to the industry,” added Mr. Dambacher, SRZ investment management partner. Founded in 1969, SRZ opened its London office in 2002, having established itself as the only leading law firm with a top-tier hedge fund practice in both Europe and the United States.
SRZ’s London practice continues to expand. In the past year, the firm added Ms. Maleva-Otto, a leading financial regulatory lawyer, and Mr. Whittaker, a highly-regarded hedge fund lawyer. Prominent business reorganisation lawyers Mr. Declercq and Ms. Van de Graaff, who advise funds investing in the distressed space, joined the firm in 2013.
Alan Waldenberg, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee and chair of the Tax Group, commented, “We are pleased to present our London Investment Management Hot Topics seminar. The annual event presents a great opportunity for our leading-edge practitioners to share insights on current issues impacting private funds.”
SRZ is the only law firm ranked in Band 1 in both the Chambers UK-Wide and USA Nationwide Guides in the category of Investment Funds: Hedge Funds, as well as the only law firm ranked in Band 1 for Investment Funds: Hedge Funds by The Legal 500 United Kingdom. The firm was named the Investment Funds – Alternative/Hedge Funds Law Firm of the Year at The Legal 500 United States Awards 2014 and The Leading Global Law Firm at the 2015 Hedge Fund Journal Awards.
