Schulte Roth & Zabel (SRZ) is hosting a seminar on Shareholder Activism in Europe today in London. Convening major industry players, the conference covers the current state of market practice in the United Kingdom and continental Europe. The event is by invitation only.

Ele Klein, New York-based SRZ partner and co-chair of the firm’s global Shareholder Activism Group, will moderate a panel covering “Current Developments and State of the Market in the UK and Europe,” which features Allison Bennington of ValueAct Capital, Liad Meidar of Gatemore Capital Management and Angus Milne of TCI Fund Management Limited.

Jim McNally, London-based SRZ partner, will moderate the “Effective Communications and Campaigning” panel featuring Domenic Brancati of Georgeson, Aneliya Crawford, New York-based SRZ partner, Ed Gascoigne-Pees of Camarco and Andrew Honnor of Greenbrook Communications. Husein Bektic of Activist Insight will discuss “Activism: 2018 and What’s Next.”

“Activist funds have continued to find success in their campaigns and many are increasingly looking to Europe for investment opportunities,” said Marc Weingarten, New York-based SRZ partner and co-chair of the global Shareholder Activism Group. “Funds and managers are more willing to engage in new types of activism and to consider investing in different jurisdictions. As such, we are seeing more enthusiasm about European markets,” commented Mr. Klein. “Supportive corporate governance rules and shareholder rights have made the United Kingdom a natural starting point in Europe for many managers,” added Mr. McNally.

“We are pleased to present today’s programme, featuring leading dealmakers in the European market. They will share their experiences from recent campaigns and provide perspective on key issues,” commented Alan S. Waldenberg, chair of SRZ’s Executive Committee.

SRZ was named “Activist Adviser of the Year” at The Deal Awards Europe, presented on 1 November 2018. Widely regarded as the dominant global law firm for activist investing, SRZ brings a sophisticated knowledge of market practices and unparalleled expertise in all areas related to activist investing. The firm has more than 30 years of experience advising clients on more than 1,000 shareholder activism matters, making SRZ one of the most experienced advisers to activists in the world. SRZ released the 2018 Shareholder Activism Insight report, published in association with Activist Insight and Okapi Partners LLC. Click here for a PDF of the report.

Among numerous campaigns in the past year, SRZ successfully represented Trian Fund Management in its proxy contest securing the appointment of its CEO and founding partner Nelson Peltz to The Procter & Gamble Company’s Board of Directors. Procter & Gamble, a $228-billion market cap multinational manufacturer, is the largest company ever to be the subject of a proxy contest.
